Welcome to Elmfield House. We are Luke and Kirsty Haslam and have lived in Lower Wensleydale for 15 years. We live on-site, so are always on hand to help guests with any queries, yet the dedicated guest accommodation is completely separate allowing guests as much privacy as you would like. I spend my days baking a range of cakes, biscuits and breads for guests to enjoy and love trying new recipes. I am also turning my hand to gardening as I try to develop a vegetable and fruit garden. I used to live in France and particularly enjoy it when I get an opportunity to practice my language skills! We run the business as a family and we are regularly supported by our extended family. Together we also run a flock of rare breed Wensleydale and Ryeland sheep all of which have excellent fleece. They graze in the fields around the B&B. You can learn about our flock and what we do with their fleece by staying with us, visiting our tea room or our online store www.shearwensleydale.com. When Luke is not head breakfast chef, he is a chartered surveyor running Elmfield Commercial Finance, which finds loans for businesses, helping them to expand, diversify, invest in property, development or equipment.
We offer guests a hearty Yorkshire Breakfast, which is cooked to order while you enjoy cereals, freshly prepared fruit salad, seasonal breakfast items and home-made yoghurt and preserves. Breakfast is accompanied by fruit juice, as much tea and coffee as you would like and toast made with our home-made bread.
A full cooked Yorkshire Breakfast comprises egg(s), dry-cure bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomato, fried bread and black pudding or you can select from the available cooked items to create your personal breakfast. Alternatively you can enjoy a vegetarian cooked breakfast with veggie sausages and extra mushrooms, fried bread, tomatoes and eggs. If you fancy something different for breakfast, just let us know and we will do our best to meet your needs. We often have a breakfast special on as well, such as French Toast topped with smoked bacon and a drizzle of maple syrup for example.
We are happy to meet any dietary requirements you may have, but please give us some warning ahead of arrival.
And whilst Elmfield Lodge is our self-catering cottage, many guests choose to enjoy the additional luxury of an Elmfield House breakfast. Just let us know as you check in and we’ll provide you with details!
The Elmfield House welcome
We like to greet guests with a complimentary cup of tea and some home-made cake or biscuits so we can have a chat about your stay and offer advice and suggestions for dinner venues, things to do etc. If you have food allergies or special dietary needs please discuss these with us before ordering breakfast. We are happy to discuss your requirements at booking to make sure your needs will be met.
If you would like to eat out we are happy to suggest places to eat and some local pubs and restaurants do special offers for our guests. We are lucky as we have a number of really excellent places to eat in the area. We can equally provide plates and cutlery if you prefer a take-away in the conservatory or to use the barbeque!
