| Gently Bentley. |

I have fallen in love. Head over heels with Bentley.
This winter we have had another horse with us. He is called Bentley and belongs to a friend of ours who does not have enough grazing for winter and he is a very unhappy chappy in a stable for more than an hour or two. So we said we would take him so he can live out and so she can spend more time on her other horse.
Pashka and Bracken were a little startled at the new addition but they settled down fairly quickly and have a good routine going. I have noticed that Pashka and Bracken's rugs have mystery tears in them and it did not take long for Josie to spot Bentley asserting his position in the herd by biting them on the bottom and hanging on to the rug as they ran off. For all he views himself as top horse in the field he is the most handsome, gentle and well mannered horse with people. He is very inexperienced for his age so I have been walking out with him just to give him something to think about. He is a huge horse and I have not dared get on him yet as it looks a long way to fall, but if he stays it can only be a matter of time. Those of you who have animals will know that there is a moment when you realise that you and your horse/dog/cat/hamster/parrot have made a connection. It is beyond words or price and it did not take long with Bentley. I think he likes to have a person and as he likes his food that was likely to be someone who is feeding and handling him. His owner comes down with treats and he always seems pleased to see her but I am glad I am getting on with him too. My heart says that I would like to make an offer for him, but my head says that this is not the right time to take on a big, inexperienced horse. We will see what happens, but watch this space because I think that Bentley will be appearing again. And for those of you who are coming to stay here then you can see him for yourself and tell me what you think - he is always pleased to see someone for a stroke and a bit of attention. |
